April Military Service Person of the Quarter

On April 26th,the Havelock Military Affairs Committee honored Sgt Shelbie McKay as the Military Service Person of the Quarter. Members of the Havelock MAC, the City of Havelock, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point Command, including LtCol Seth Wolcott, and Marines from the Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 assembled at Hancock Lodge aboard MCAS Cherry Point to celebrate Sgt McKay’s volunteerism with a luncheon and awards presentation.

Havelock MAC Honors Sgt McKay as April’s Military Service Person of the Quarter

Attendees enjoy lunch from Riverside Pizza & Subs in Havelock

 

“Simply, Sgt McKay embodies those characteristics of the Marine Corps that we desire to see in any service-minded American. Additionally, her work in the local community is exceptional and she serves other Marines as a Single Marine Program Coordinator.” wrote LtCol Dennis W. Katolin.

Sgt McKay was selected from amongst her peers as the Military Service Person of the Quarter for volunteering throughout Havelock in various ways such as the Havelock Cherry Point Outreach Food Pantry, Havelock High School, Havelock Elementary School, MCCS Trees for Troops and many other community projects.

Capt Adrian Adame shares appreciation for Sgt McKay's service

 

The event began with those in attendance enjoying lunch from Riverside Pizza & Subs in Havelock. Once the meal was completed LtCol Seth Wolcott and Capt Adrian Adame shared a few words on behalf of Sgt McKay. Havelock Military Affairs Committee Chairman Bruce Fortin and Havelock Chamber of Commerce Marketing Assistant Caitlin Gibson then began the awards presentation. City Commissioner, Josh Kohr read an official proclamation on behalf of Havelock Mayor Will Lewis for Sgt McKay. Along with the official proclamation, The City of Havelock also presented Sgt McKay with a gift of appreciation. Various Havelock businesses donated gifts which were awarded to Sgt McKay. Before receiving her final gifts, Sgt McKay shared a few words of appreciation with those in attendance. Then Bruce Fortin presented Sgt McKay with a plaque and check from the Havelock MAC in appreciation for her contributions to our community.
