Historical Society Adds to the Team

Stop by the Historical Society and say "Hey!" to the new fully staffed team.

The New Bern Historical Society is proud to introduce its full staff of four.  Executive Director Anthony Giardino, having recently filled two positions, is ready to go with a great team and is looking forward to the summer months as a great opportunity to onboard and train them leading up to a very busy fall schedule of events, to include several Education Programs, and the very-well known Annual Ghostwalk Event, now in its 34th year of production.

The new staff additions include Michel Epps, as Operations Assistant.  Michel is originally from the scenic Ozark Mountains of SE Missouri and started her career as an administrative assistant, first at Illinois State University and later at Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.  Following almost a decade as an office manager in Santa Fe, she returned to the Ozarks to teach American History and coordinate a variety of programs, first at a community college and later a non-profit. Michel and her husband, Mack, arrived in New Bern in 2019 for what was supposed to be a short layover while sailing down the ICW, and the rest - as they say - is history!

The next to join is a familiar face in the New Bern Community!  Former Head of School at The Epiphany School of Global Studies, Dwight Carlblom, was hired as the Operations Manager.  Dwight and his wife, Lori, hail from Minnesota, but spent most of their professional careers with international schools in Malaysia and South Korea.  After nine years as Head of School at Epiphany, Dwight retired from that position to explore new opportunities in the community.  Dwight is glad to call New Bern home, and as a history major and teacher for many of his 46 years in education, is thrilled to be able to work with the New Bern Historical Society!

Marissa Moore is now entering her third year as Programs Director, and Anthony Giardino was recently promoted to the Executive Director role.

The mission of the New Bern Historical Society is to celebrate and promote New Bern and its heritage through events and education.  Offices are located in the historic Attmore- Oliver House at 511 Broad Street in New Bern.  For more information, call 252-638-8558 or go www.NewBernHistorical.org or www.facebook.com/NewBernHistoricalSociety.
