“Despite a tempo of operations that is truly demanding, LCpl Budathoki has dedicated himself to others. Not only in his service to the country as a member of the Armed Forces, but also as a transplanted resident of Cherry Point and the communities that surround us.” wrote LtCol D. W. Katolin. LCpl Budathoki was selected from amongst his peers as the Military Service Person of the Quarter for volunteering throughout Havelock in various formats such as the Havelock Chamber of Commerce’s Salute to the Vets event and the City of Havelock’s Christmas Dinner Dance.

The event began with those in attendance enjoying lunch from Riverside Pizza & Subs in Havelock. Once the meal was completed Col. Huber, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Rodriguez, and Gunnery Sergeant Rodriguez shared a few words on behalf of LCpl Budathoki. Military Affairs Committee Chairman Bruce Fortin and Havelock Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Erin Knight then began the awards presentation. City Commissioner, Brenda Wilson read an official proclamation on behalf of Havelock Mayor Will Lewis for LCpl Budathoki. The City of Havelock also presented LCpl Budathoki with a gift of appreciation along with the official proclamation. Various Havelock businesses donated gifts which were awarded to LCpl Budathoki. The final award was a plaque and check presented by the Havelock MAC to thank him for his contributions to our community. The celebration ended with a few words from LCpl Budathoki. He expressed his motivation for joining the Marine Corps and serving his country and community. Upon completion of his thoughts, the room erupted in a standing ovation, as everyone was affected by this young Marine’s story and motivation for service.

Congratulations, LCpl Budathoki. Thank you for your service to our community.
